To provide more structure to Company Section evenings and to bring our programme more in line with the new Badge system, it has been decided to run an 'International Theme' for our programme. Each night the activities we do will be centred on a chosen country which will help you get your Community, Recreation and Skills badges.
How will Company Section evenings be structured?
Every week we will follow this structure to enable you to do a bit of time each week on the main badge areas. The activities we do will focus on the country of the week:
19:15 Fall-in
19:30 Drill / Community (Drill will be done fortnightly rather than weekly)
19:45 Community
20:15 Physical / Cooking
20:55 Free-time
21:25 Dismiss
How does this translate into badges?
Community |
Community Projects based on an issue in that country |
Recreation |
Physical - a sport or game from a chosen country |
Skills |
Cooking - cooking a dish from that nation for the whole Company Section |
What are the chosen countries?
We've tried to pick countries from a variety of continents, some challenging and others perhaps not so challenging. Here they are below and when we'll look at them:

What will you be required to do?
Cooking
On 16th September, we will put a list for people to sign up to which week they want to cook. The cooking will be done in pairs under the supervision of a officer or senior. When the Physical activity is due, you will be expected to cook instead. We will provide a list of suggestions for meals to cook from that country but suggestions are always welcome. You will be given 45 minutes to cook and wash up and you'll be expected to make enough to feed the whole company.
No one will be able to sign up for Italy as this will be the Seniors' DofE Silver Cooking assessment night. United Kingdom night will be a Fish and Chips night so no cooking will be done then.
Community
A leader or a Senior has been assigned a country each to prepare resources on a certain issue related to that country. You'll be expected to make things like a wall display or possibly a powerpoint to show what you have learnt about that issue. This will take half an hour on Drill weeks and 45 minutes on no-Drill weeks.
Free-Time
We want to see greater structure to free time. This will be done by getting the older boys to show the younger ones how to do various jobs, like the website or newsletter etc. This is because from September next year these reponsibilities will not be able to be done by the present Year 13.
Free time may be given over as well to organising expeditions or the Bahamas trip.
Any questions about what has been said above, please speak to Mr Welch or Mr Quigley for further details.
