| North West BB 5 a side Football Tournament |

On 12th May 1st Haslington Boys Brigade entered the North West District 5-a-side football tournament. The boys that took part were Matthew Welch, Simon Wright, Dominic Mellor, James Lane, Matthew Pickup and James Walker. After a long journey up to Kirkham in the Lake District we arrived at the sports hall we were going to play. Our group matches were against 24th Oldham, 2nd Runcorn and 1st Bear.
Our first match and the tournament’s first match was against 24th Oldham. Our first goal came quickly by a Matthew Pickup shot hit the back of the net. Followed in quick succession by a goal from 24th Oldham to make it 1-1.Matthew Welch did well in keeping goals out of the net. A few minuets later after some good passing Matthew Pickup made the score 2-1 followed by another goal by 24th Oldham. It was a tense last few minutes for 1st Haslington then 24th Oldham scored with minutes to spare. The final score was 24th Oldham 3, 1st Haslington 2.
Next we did an RAF task which was to get two metal bars with the whole team on to get to the other end of the hall in the quickest time. We did well with James Lane as our leader posted a time of 2 minutes 33 seconds. We came 4th out of the teams there.
Our next match was against 2nd Runcorn. The scores were level at 0-0 for most of the match with good saves from Matthew Welch and many near misses. Near the end of the match a bad throw by the 2nd Runcorn Keeper gave Dominic Mellor his first goal of the tournament as he calmly hit the ball into the far corner. We managed to keep this lead until the end of the match. In the end we won 1-0.
Later we played against 1st Bear. Like the last match the score was 0-0 for most of the match, some sloppy defending from 1st Haslington let 1st Bear score two goals. The end result 2-0 to 1st Bear. The event was enjoyed by all the boys.
