| Weekend Camp to Kirkham |
![]() |
In the summer of 2007, some of the boys from the 1st Haslington Boys Brigade went to Kirkham on the yearly camp. For some of the boys, the accommodation at Kirkham was full of memories because there was a camp there last year and the North West district 5-a-side football tournament (read the report for more details) was held there. That same weekend, a brigade from Liverpool was staying there.
First on the agenda was to get the tents erected and with some good spirit, the tents were up. Supper that night was hotdogs which all the boys enjoyed. Early the next morning, the boys were dragged from their tents to eat breakfast. That day was reasonably busy. We first walked up a hill that stood at 1,000 feet tall, after that a short but relaxing drive down to Grassmere where some of the boys went and bought souvenirs for their families and others played in the park which was right next to where the van was parked! After that busy day it was back to camp where we went on an assault course which was making a busy day even busier.
That night the lights went out early for we would have to get up early to take down the tents. Taking down the tents was a big struggle but after that was done we headed off back down to Haslington stopping off at Southport beach. When we eventually got to Southport beach we made a very long journey to get to the sea through mud, sand and worst of all oil to get to the sea. We never made it to the sea! After really bad traffic we made it back to Haslington and the really tired boys were met by their families and taken home after a really eventful weekend.
