| Car Wash 'n' Dry Service Fundraiser for the Bahamas |
As part of rasing money for the Bahamas tour in March, Senior Lads and leaders going to the Bahamas and other boys from 1st Haslington Boys' Brigade ran a four week car washing business that ran on Saturdays from 10am until 3pm. It was a service where people could book an appointment to have their car washed then the lads and leaders would go along to that person's house at their desired time to wash and then dry it. The Service was highly praised by most of the customers who signed up to it and some even booked for their cars to be washed again by us because they were impressed by what a good job we were doing.
The Wash n' Dry Car Service got a huge amount of bookings on its first week of Business. With only three lads, Ryan Mellor, Jim Walker and Joe Dixon and one of the Bahamas leaders Mr Walker to wash a full day's worth of cars, the Car Washing service got a good start by raising £81 from washing around 14 cars in total. The weather conditions wern't bad on the only February day we did the car wash and everyone who took part on that day did very well with the small amount of people avaliable to wash the huge amount of cars we had booked in.
The following week, Saturday 1st March, saw a better turnout of boys washing the cars, including Joe Dixon, Ryan Mellor, Jim Walker and Phil Wright. Again on this second week of washing we still had many cars to wash and the weather wasn't as favourable as we would of hoped for but nevertheless we went on to earn another amazing total of £76 from washing about 10 cars in total including Graham Bushill's van.
On Saturday 8th March saw another good turnout however we didn't have as many cars to clean as we did on the first week of business. People who turned up were Ryan Mellor, Joe Dixon, Jonathan Allpress and Bahamas Leaders Mr Quigley and Mr Walker. Despite there being less cars to clean, the lads and leaders still had a great time cleaning cars despite weather conditions still not being at their best and the team made £76 for the Bahamas fund.
The last week of business saw Chris Burrows, Joe Dixon, Jim Walker and Ryan Mellor along with Mr Quigley and old lad from the Brigade Adam Evans washing cars. This week had the least amount of cars booked out of the four Saturdays we did the car wash. Though this day was shorter than the others, the lads and leaders still made a good £60 from the Car Wash. Along with the £60 came news that the Brigade and Oakhanger Project had managed to raise enough money to go on the Bahamas tour with change left over. So Well done lads for all your hard work.
For me personally these four weeks of car washing was a great experience that I throughly enjoyed and I think the people I car washed with would agree with me that it was fun and at the same time it helped to build our teamwork skills giving us almost a taster of how we would work together as a team in the Bahamas. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Rob Walker, John Quigley and Rob Welch for their hard work to make this car wash happen and to say a job well done to everyone who took part and a thank you to all people who volunteered to have their cars washed. The Bahamas tour should be a great experience for all of us who are going and it wouldn't of happened without the hard work of everyone. Thank you.
Ryan Mellor
