On Saturday 2nd February, the very enjoyable annual East Cheshire Battalion Indoor Games Competition was once again held at Elworth and 1st Haslington gained a respectable 3rd out of 4th place in the Team competition.
During the course of the morning, many different games were played, including Darts, Table Curling, Bar Skittles, Carpet Bowls, Snooker, Connect 4 and of course Table Tennis. Many lads from the 1st Haslington Company turned up to the event, which gave our company a great chance of getting that top team prize. However it was not to be as Congleton ran away with victory only 1 point in front of 1st Elworth leaving Haslington third and bad luck for Middlewich as they came last in the event. All games were played with great enjoyment and effort from all the companies and each company had a great turn out which made this event well spread out across all the games.
After a well deserved lunch of Burgers and Chips, prepared kindly by some of leaders, exciting and at times tense finals were played leaving 1st Haslington with some winners. Winners of events included James Lane who gained two trophies, one in Darts and the other in Table for the 14's and under age group. Also in the 14's and under age group, Joe Dixon won a Trophy in the Bar Skittles and also Jonathan Allpress who won the Carpet Bowls . In the 15's and overs age group, Ryan Mellor won a trophy for a single-rounded competition of Table Curling.
Many of 1st Haslington's lads got quite far in each competition and did extremely well in each. This year was possibly one of the best Battalion Indoor Games competitions ever in terms of competition and turn out. Well done to all that attended and hopefully next year we can go all the way to win the whole event and get our hands on that team trophy!
We should also congratulate boys from the other companies who attended for giving us great competition and fun and congratulations to Congleton for winning this year's title.
