| Rememberance Sunday 2008 |

When I first joined the BB, the parade on Rememberance Sunday meant that standing around in the cold and not really understanding the true meaning of the day. Now despite the cold and sometimes rain it makes me realise how lucky we really are and how proud we should be of the men and women who gave their lives so we could live in a free country. Waiting in the car park to set off on the short march to the centre of Haslington, laughing and joking, nothing seems to be further from our minds.
Only as we stand for the minute silence doesi t hit me that boys not much older tha me, threw themselves into trenches and ran from gunfire, many were never going to see home again. I look at the men in the crowd who wear their medals with pride and a tear in their eyes for the friends and family who didn't make it.
I look at the boys in the Junior Section and think that they'd probably think like I used to, I can't wait to get back into the warm, what am I doing here? I hope that one day just like me they will feel proud of those men and women, grateful that they had the courage to take on a far bigger enemy than they had ever imagined, sad for those that paid the ultimate price with their lives, and hopeful that as a race we eventually learn that war comes with a price many us cannot comprehend.
