| Bahamas Triathlon Fundraiser |
On Saturday 9th February, six boys from the Company Section (four of which are going to the Bahamas in March) took part in a Triathlon hosted by the Oakhanger Project along the Salt Line in the Congleton area of Cheshire. Ryan Mellor, Phil Wright, Joe Dixon, Jim Walker, Dominic Mellor and Simon Wright were split into groups along with Mr Walker and Mr Quigley who were with Dominic and Simon and had to complete a circuit which involved a walk along the Salt Line then a kayak and portage down the canal. This challenge required great teamwork and skill to try and beat the other team.
The older boys going to the Bahamas (Ryan, Phil, Joe and Jim) started off with the walk down the Salt Line while the younger lads along with Mr Quigley and Mr Walker kayaked up the Canal. We were both heading towards our change over place at the Broughten Arms. The weather was fabulous for February with plenty of sunshine making our Triathlon very pleasant.
The younger team stuggled a little bit to start with as they were battling against the wind but the older team got off to a great start walking along the Salt Line without getting lost. The walk was wonderful with lots of walkers out and the older team having a great time.
Swapping over didn't take a huge amount of time but once we were on the water the older team took as bit of time not going so fast and losing valuable time to the younger team. The younger team picked up speed and managed to overtake our time and went onto win the event by 16 minutes. A great turnout by the boys and a great effort by both teams. This event should be good practice in terms of teamwork when the older boys go out to the Bahamas in March. Everyone really enjoyed themselves and it is an event our Brigade is seriously considering doing again.
Well Done lads!
Ryan Mellor
