| Company Section Treasure Hunt |
When presented with the task of designing a treasure hunt for the Company Section, me and Joe Dixon felt a challenge, especiallyin the Winterley/Wheelock Heath area. However after many hours of looking around the area and picking up certain information and creating questions, we finally designed a set of questions of which the lads participating would follow.
The aim of the activity was to answer a set of questions given to the lads which would give them a route, however they were not allowed maps and had to work out the way to go using the questions. The questions we felt were tough and would take time to work out but the treasure at the end of the trail was £2 worth of free tuck for each boy of the winning team.
With a beautiful, clear evening, the boys split up into two teams and followed the questions. Little did they know that they all had the same questions but they both were opposite order (for team 1, question 1 would have been the last question for team 2). Jonathan Allpress's group (who followed the route in a clockwise direction) were very much quick off the mark and very ahead but did fail to answer some of the questions. However it was Jim Walker's group who managed to answer all the questions, however it turned out not all of them were correct.
A very interesting set of questions, it required the boys to find out the motto for the former Crewe and Nantwich Borough and when the Dog (Fouling of Land) Act was introduced. Jonathan's group did get lost but did well to get back on route and came back first. However though the winning group was Jim Walker's group who answered most of the questions correctly. A close contest though as Jonathan's group were only two points behind them.
A very enjoyable night, especially from the perspective of a person organising it and I think all the lads would agree the quiz was fairly interesting reading.
